Scotts Valley FD, Scotts Valley, CA - February 22, 2008
We just placed the rescue 42 struts in use in December 2007 and already we are seeing some good use. They have really given the crews more confidence while working around vehicles in precarious positions. Some have even said that without the struts the extrication would have been much longer or difficult.
A brown Ford Ranger rolled off the road way onto a dirt shoulder. E2511 crew reported that the ground was completely saturated and that the truck was very unstable. Even though the ground was soft the struts were able to secure the vehicle in stable position allowing a safe extrication. The patient ended up only sustaining minor injuries but without extrication he would not have been able to get out.
